ABSTRACT

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess Jordanian physicians' awareness about venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk among COVID-19 patients and its treatment protocol. Method(s): This was a cross-sectional-based survey that was conducted in Jordan in 2020. During the study period, a convenience sample of physicians working in various Jordanian hospitals were invited to participate in this study. Physicians' knowledge was evaluated and physicians gained one point for each correct answer. Then, a knowledge score out of 23 was calculated for each. Key Findings: In this study, 102 physicians were recruited. Results from this study showed that most of the physicians realize that all COVID-19 patients need VTE risk assessment (n = 69, 67.6%). Regarding VTE prophylaxis, the majority of physicians (n = 91, 89.2%) agreed that low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) is the best prophylactic option for mild-moderate COVID-19 patients with high VTE risk. Regarding severe/critically ill COVID-19 patients, 75.5% of physicians (n = 77) recognized that LMWH is the correct prophylactic option in this case, while 80.4% of them (n = 82) knew that mechanical prevention is the preferred prophylactic option for severe/critically ill COVID-19 patients with high bleeding risk. Moreover, 77.5% of physicians (n = 79) knew that LMWH is the treatment of choice for COVID-19 patients diagnosed with VTE. Finally, linear regression analysis showed that consultants had an overall higher knowledge score about VTE prevention and treatment in COVID-19 patients compared with residents (P = 0.009). Conclusion(s): All physicians knew about VTE risk factors for COVID-19 patients. However, consultants showed better awareness of VTE prophylaxis and treatment compared with residents. We recommend educational workshops be conducted to enhance physicians' knowledge and awareness about VTE thromboprophylaxis and management in COVID-19 patients.Copyright © 2022 The Author(s). ABSTRACT

By the use of current communication technologies, educational institutions are able to transmit classroom lectures and pedagogical guidelines to students at a distance. Students in Oman and Jordan have ceased attending colleges and schools as a precautionary step to achieve social separation in view of the present conditions surrounding the spread of the Coronavirus, which has swept the whole world. According to defence orders issued by the Jordanian cabinet, law majors are taught in Jordanian public and private universities, 20 universities in which studies have shifted from face education to e-learning during the second semester of the 2019-2020 academic year. The theories of pandemics have existed in Islamic jurisprudence since ancient times, and Maliki jurists have devoted specialized books to it to discuss this issue. However, the Coronavirus pandemic is not the first or the last till the end of the world. The usage of e-learning, a modern method of education, is quickly expanding across a range of contexts. The electronic delivery of integrated programmes is now commonplace in universities and colleges, and even at some research universities and institutes. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, numerous quarantine measures have been implemented, and regular schooling has been put on hold. This has shifted the emphasis heavily towards online education. The study's objectives are to provide an assessment of students' perceptions of their e-learning experiences in law programmes at universities in Jordan and Oman, as well as pros and cons of e-learning from students' perspectives and suggestions for improving e-learning at universities and academic institutions. © 2023 Otjivanda Presse.Essen. ABSTRACT

Due to the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation in the Pharmaceutical industry, the current study investigates the moderation role of Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) on the influence of innovation on Pharmaceutical SMEs performance in Jordan. The current research was conducted on Jordanian pharmaceutical SMEs including manufacturers, distributors, and pharmacies with employee numbers of less than 100. The research design was quantitative, descriptive, causal, and cross-sectional held by an online questionnaire tool targeted all employees, managers, and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) in pharmaceutical SMEs. Using the AMOS software, the Structural Equation Model (SEM) was adopted to analyze a sample of 162 surveys and examine the hypotheses. The outcome of this study indicated that the research model variables can explain 69.4% of the variance of SMEs' performance. Additionally, it confirmed that innovation has a significant positive impact on pharmaceutical SMEs, and Entrepreneurial Orientation moderates the influence of innovation on pharmaceutical SMEs' Performance. Furthermore, current research findings contribute to extending existing relevant knowledge about the innovation impact and moderating role of Entrepreneurial Orientation on pharmaceutical SMEs' performance in Jordan and understanding the relationship between these variables to be of significant guidance to managing entrepreneurship in emerging economies. Further, the results show SMEs' methods and directions to follow during crises, such as COVID-19, to maintain business performance and sustainability. The current research paper contributes to the present literature since very limited studies investigated the innovation impact on SMEs' performance. Moreover, previous studies did not sufficiently analyze the impact of management, product, and process dimensions of innovation on SMEs' performance with the contribution of EO.

ABSTRACT

Aims: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of lockdown measures by the Jordanian government to contain the spread of the novel corona virus (COVID-19) on glycemic control of patients with diabetes mellitus. Method(s): This cross-sectional study was conducted in Jordan University Hospital. A total of 264 patients with type 2 or type 1 diabetes mellitus were sampled. The authors evaluated the extent of glycemic control reached by patients with type 2 or type 1 diabetes mellitus by measuring change in glycosylated hemoglobin (A1C) values, in addition to the number of hypoglycemic episodes experienced by patients during lockdown. The authors conducted a questionnaire via telephone interviews to record information about drug adherence and availability, diet, physical activity, and telephone consultations. A paired sample t-test was used to compare values before and after lockdown. Result(s): A significant reduction in HbA1C values was found during lockdown (p=0.038), with only 33.6% of patients experiencing one or more hypoglycemic episodes;both factors suggest controlled blood glucose levels. Medication adherence was found to be the main reason for improvement, with 74.8% of our population being strongly adherent to their medications. Conclusion(s): In Jordanian patients with diabetes mellitus, glycemic control was significantly improved during COVID-19 lockdown and this was found to be associated with strong medication adherence.Copyright © 2023 University of Jordan,Deanship of Scientific Research. ABSTRACT

Background: The use of antimicrobials has been expanded during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to assess the knowledge and practices of disinfectants and sanitizers use among Jordanian people during the (COVID-19) pandemic. Methods: A web-based cross-sectional descriptive questionnaire was distributed across Jordan between August and September 2020. The questionnaire consisted of three sections inquiring about demographics and general characteristics of the surveyed sample, evaluating the respondents' knowledge about disinfectants, as well as respondents' practices. The questionnaire was completed by 403 literate adult respondents. Results: Our results indicate that Jordanian adults have used disinfectants increasingly during the COVID-19 outbreak. Knowledge of our study sample was considerably affected by gender (p=0.044), income (p=0.001), and profession (p<0.001). 80.8% of those participants reported skin-related side effects due to disinfectant use during the pandemic. The most used disinfectants were ethanol, followed by soap and water. Generally, study respondents showed positive practices toward the use of disinfectants during the time of the pandemic with few high-risk practices reported. Interestingly, the positive practices applied by Jordanian adults were minimally and not significantly affected by the knowledge about antimicrobials' safe and effective use. Conclusions: There is an urgent need for a structured effort to increase public awareness regarding the safe and effective use of disinfectants against SARS-CoV-2 transmission. © 2023 DSR Publishers/The University of Jordan.

ABSTRACT

Managerial creativity enhances the distinction of any organization compared to other organizations due to its ability to find suitable solutions for the problems facing the organization and due to its ability to improve new products and services or through improving working methods or styles in it. Therefore, this topic has occupied a large area of interest in literature review. However, there are some aspects which are still ambiguous about the impact of each of the organizational commitment and administrative empowerment on one hand and administrative creativity on the other hand, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic which the world is suffering from nowadays. Accordingly, this study aims to investigate the impact of organizational commitment, with its various dimensions, on administrative creativity within the Jordanian pharmaceutical companies with the existence of administrative empowerment as a mediating variable. Data of the study was collected using a simple random sample which consisted of (201) employees working in the Jordanian pharmaceutical companies. Structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis was conducted using AMOS.20. The study found that there are strong correlation relationships between most of the study variables in addition to the existence of a significant impact of administrative empowerment on administrative creativity as a dependent variable. The (direct and indirect) results of the total impact analysis revealed that there is an impact of all dimensions of organizational commitment on administrative creativity with the existence of administrative empowerment as a mediating variable. Based on these results, the study recommended that Jordanian pharmaceutical companies conduct workshops, seminars and training programs to teach their employees the importance of organizational commitment and occupational empowerment and their role in enhancing administrative creativity. In addition, the investigated companies need to pay attention to involving their employees in setting goals, formulating policies and programs, participating in decision-making processes and spreading a culture of teamwork by providing incentives of various kinds, which contributes to enhancing the levels of organizational commitment and administrative creativity alike, especially in light of Covid-19 pandemic. © 2023 DSR Publishers/The University of Jordan. ABSTRACT

As a result of the effects of the COVID_19 pandemic, which has greatly affected the global economy, individuals have resorted to using financial technology and modern applications for financial transactions, which help reduce gatherings, given the centralization of the virus and the emergence of new, advanced pests. This paper aims to determine the impact of the COVID_19 pandemic on financial technology in the Jordanian banking sector. However, the quantitative approach was adopted, through electronic survey questionnaires being distributed to 2450 respondents from the population, which are all customers of Jordanian banks who use electronic banking services in the presence of the COVID_19 pandemic. As a result of analyzing 1930 resolution, it was found that the perception of the COVID_19 pandemic has a significant positive impact on Fintech in the Jordanian banking sector and that the perception of the COVID_19 pandemic has a significant positive impact on the dimensions of Fintech in Jordan which are (ease of use, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, interface design, and privacy). This study contributed to determining the extent to which electronic banking services reduce customer visits to branches according to social distancing. The paper explains how the development of technical services should go hand in hand with the bank's development strategies aimed at acquiring and retaining more customers. This paper recommends the need to improve the application of electronic banking services in proportion to customer satisfaction as much as possible. Copyright © 2023. All Rights Reserved.

ABSTRACT

A new approach to learning is mobile learning (m-learning), which makes use of special features of mobile devices in the education sector. M-learning is becoming increasingly common in higher education institutions all around the world. The use of mobile devices for education and learning has also gained popularity in Jordan. Unlike studies about Jordan, there are many studies that thoroughly analyze the situation of m-learning in other countries. Thus, it is important to understand the current situation of m-learning at Jordanian universities, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. While there have been some studies conducted prior to COVID-19 and a few studies after COVID-19, there is a need for a comprehensive study that provides an in-depth exploration of the current situation, student adoption, benefits, disadvantages, and challenges, particularly following COVID-19. Therefore, this study utilizes a sequential exploratory mixed research method to investigate the current state of the art of m-learning in Jordanian higher education with a particular focus on student adoption, benefits, disadvantages, and challenges. Firstly, the study explores the existing literature on m-learning and conducts 15 interviews with educators and learners in three Jordanian universities to gain insights into their experiences with m-learning. The study then distributes a survey to students at four Jordanian universities, representing both public and private universities, to generalize the results from the qualitative study. Additionally, the study investigates the relationship between student enrollment in public/private universities and the adoption of m-learning. The study came to the conclusion that students have a positive opinion of m-learning and are also willing to use it. However, there are a number of disadvantages and challenges to its adoption. Additionally, there is a relationship between student enrolment in public/private universities and the adoption of m-learning. These findings have important implications for institutions that want to incorporate m-learning into their undergraduate and graduate degree programs, as they aid decision-makers in these universities in creating frameworks that may be able to meet the needs of m-learning.

ABSTRACT

E-learning platforms are essential tools used widely for teaching and learning English, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. They are also used to communicate and interact with students, assess progress, evaluate assignments, and provide feedback. However, teachers of English face potential barriers when they use such platforms. This study examines the use of e-learning platforms in teaching English as a foreign language in Jordan. The study employed a quantitative research method. The findings revealed that using e-learning platforms for educational purposes is beneficial regarding accessibility when attending courses. E-learning enabled the students to practise more and to be more engaged in the learning process, which improved their language skills. Effective e-learning platform strategies significantly broaden students' perceptions and increase the opportunity to exchange information with their classmates. Nonetheless, several impediments may hinder the application of e-learning platforms, including teacher-related, technical, and technological factors. The study recommends that teachers use interactive methods, including images, sounds, videos, and multimedia, to engage learners with various needs and abilities. The study also suggests building codified standards when designing e-learning to develop students' skills at all levels and training teachers on using modern technological strategies in e-learning © 2023, International Journal of Emerging Technologies in Learning. All Rights Reserved.

ABSTRACT

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to examine the factors influencing the usage of cloud-based accounting information systems (AIS) in the crisis era (i.e. the COVID-19 pandemic) by expanding the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) with new related critical factors.Design/methodology/approachA quantitative research approach based on a cross-sectional online questionnaire was used for collecting empirical data from 438 potential and current users of cloud-based AIS. Structural equation modeling based on analysis of a moment structures 25.0 was applied in the data analysis.FindingsThe outcome of the structural path revealed that performance expectancy, social motivation, COVID-19 risk (COV-19 PR) and trust (TR) were significantly influencing users' behavioral intention (BI) toward using cloud-based AIS and explained 71% of its variance. While, contrary to what is expected, the impact of effort expectancy and perceived security risk (SEC) on BI was insignificant. In addition, BI was revealed to influence the actual usage behaviors and explained 74% of its variance. The outcome factors: communication quality (CQ) and decision quality (DQ) were significantly influenced by the usage of cloud-based AIS.Practical implicationsThe current research would be valuable for small- and medium-sized enterprises officials and policymakers to illustrate the relatively low rates of cloud-based AIS and formulate strategies to boost the acceptance and use of cloud-based AIS by Jordanian users, where cloud-based services are still deemed as an innovation.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors' knowledge, the current study is the first academic paper that extends the UTAUT by integrating additional factors: TR, SEC and COV-19 PR. In addition to two outcome variables: CQ and DQ, to study the cloud-based AIS in the Jordanian setting beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. The current research contributes to the academic knowledge on information technology information system adoption by considering cloud accounting acceptance and use and integration into the work practices of users through the BIs and actual use of cloud-based AIS in Jordan.

ABSTRACT

Engagement is an essential aspect of the learning process. To attain academic success, students must always be engaged. Because of the epidemic's global spread, most learning has been moved online. Traditional students today face a new challenge with the proliferation of online education. This abrupt adjustment may impact their learning behaviour and willingness to embrace change. Consequently, their enthusiasm for studying may decrease dramatically. During COVID-19, this study investigated the level of engagement among Jordanian EFL students in their virtual classrooms. A "student course engagement questionnaire” was administered to 602 Jordanian EFL university students (males = 323, females = 297). The results showed that Jordanian EFL Students generally had a moderate engagement level during the epidemic. While skills, emotional, and interaction engagement factors received a moderate level of engagement, only the performance factor received a high engagement level. Fewer than one-quarter of Jordanian EFL students acknowledged dissatisfaction with their virtual English classes, whereas the highest percentage reported being somewhat satisfied. The study's sample perceptions towards their engagement level were statistically significant due to their gender and university level. The presence of a teacher adds substantially to the development of interactive engagement communities and, as a result, the improvement of students' language skills. When the teacher's role is creatively played, a constant teacher-student interaction arises. These findings were taken into consideration when providing limitations and recommendations. © 2023 The Author(s). ABSTRACT

University educational institutions in Jordan, in general, have quickly dealt with emergency situations facing education, such as the Corona pandemic, in which they needed to move from traditional learning to online learning (in its fully and blended forms) during the previous period. This led the public and private educational institutions in Jordan to implement the executive action plan that was prepared by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) for integrating online learning into the higher education system and reflect it on their programs in order to keep pace with developments at the local, regional and international levels. This study includes a specification of the components relevant to online learning management system, and aims to determine the percentages of achievement at the level of fully online learning and blended learning for all components of the online learning management system in public and private Jordanian universities and also determine the percentages of achievement for each one of these components at the university level, and the most important actions that should be taken by universities to achieve them. The study also aims to benefit the integration of online learning within the Jordanian higher education system in an effective manner that achieves high levels of educational quality for online learning in its both forms and ensure the desired shift in the performance of Jordanian higher education institutions and the quality of its output, keeping pace with global developments in this field. The study concludes with a set of results that will benefit decision-makers in the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions (AQACHEI), MoHESR, and Jordanian higher education institutions.
